Clinic Information
 Beth Hamilton is a Registered Nurse who is available to students during the school day. The clinic is open during school hours to students who may have health needs such as medication/treatment administration, first aid, illness evaluation as well as routine screening for vision, hearing and scoliosis. The nurse is also a resource for students, families and staff for health information on a variety of topics. In addition the nurse is involved with the special education eligibilty process and is involved with teaching and training for staff and students on various health topics as they apply to the school setting.

Immunizations
This is just a reminder to all parents of 6th grade students to make sure your child has received the required TDAP booster shot before the first day of school. Written documentation of this vaccine is required for school attendance. If you have questions please contact your health care provider or the Virginia Department of Health.

Flu(Influenza)
 The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild or severe illness. The flu spreads in repiratory droplets caused by coughing and sneezing. The single best way to prevent the flu is to get a vaccine each fall. In schools we need to concentrate on good health habits and respiratory etiquette to prevent flu.

Health Screenings
Routine screenings for vision and hearing begin in September. The following students will be screened for vision and hearing: All 7th grade students, New students, requests from parents, teachers.

Scoliosis is curvature of the spine. According to available information 7 to 10 out of every 100 children may develope scoliosis and 1 to 3 of that group will require treatment.  If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spine deformity can be prevented. This year 7th grade students will be screened beginning in January.
