Clinic Information
Beth Hamilton is a Registered Nurse. She is a National Board Certified School Nurse and has
been at Gayle Middle School since 1995. Mrs. Hamilton is available to students during the
school day. The clinic is open during school hours to students who may have health needs
such as medication/treatment administration, first aid, illness/injury assessment as well as
screening for vision and hearing.

The School Nurse is a resource for students, families and staff for health information on a
variety of topics. In addition the nurse is part of the Student Services Team and the special
education eligibility process. She is also involved with teaching and training for staff and
students on various health topics as they apply to the school setting.

Immunization and Physical exam information
Please see information under Forms and Files section about upcoming immunization clinics, School entrance physical exams and immunization information offered by the Rappahannock Area Health Department in preparation for the 2011/2012 school year.

School Registration

Immunizations
This is just a reminder to all parents of 6th grade students to make sure your child has received the required TDAP booster shot before the first day of school. Written documentation of this vaccine is required for school attendance. If you have questions please contact your health care provider or the Virginia Department of Health.

Health Screenings
Routine screenings for vision and hearing begin in September. The following students will be screened for vision and hearing: All 7th grade students, New students, requests from parents, teachers.

Scoliosis is curvature of the spine. It affects 2-3% of the population.  If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spine deformity can be prevented. Seventh grade students are encouraged to be screened by their Health Care Provider during their routine physical exam for this condition.
